when i was watching the films of brian de palma obsession was one of the unseen films that i was most excited for. it seemed like a sure fire winner: directed by de palma, starring john lithgow, a de palma thriller called obsession which sounded like another golden de palma thriller like femme fatale or dressed to kill. how could i not be excited. it was also a film, which at the time, was very hard to track down. i found it on dvd on demand and i had to do a lot of research in order to make sure it was the correct aspect ratio (i will not watch, review or own pan and scan full frame movies).... read more

I mean its cool but it honestly just made me want to re watch vertigo again. I felt like no character here has any real charisma, plot twists don't really unfold smoothly, and the scenes where older Amy was reenacting the kidnapping that happened years prior just felt kind of weird to me? Technical aspects of the film were incredible but its De Palma so nothing really surprising there. read more

although it is not my favorite de palma's film, i like and adore that flavor of classic cinema that is felt throughout the duration of the film. if i had to highlight any flaws, i would say that perhaps the central part seems too long, leaving the resolution of the final plot twist for the last 10 minutes. read more
