The Italian Job

the italian job, for the first half, plays like a 60's british sex farce only without the sex which makes it a) a product very much of its time and b) not very good. sure michael caine is fun, funny, really young and highly charismatic and sure some of the humour works and yeah some of the cinematography is good and i'm not gonna lie, the opening credits with the music (in fact a lot of the music was great) and the mountains and the sports car got me really excited as i felt as though i was watching a great bond film from the connery (or lazenby if you will) era and it was kind of fun to read more

Something I thought I'd seen before, but a lot of it was new, mainly all the stuff before they reach Italy that hasn't quite been crystalised as "Classic British CInema". This doesn't quite pull off what the great heist films do, which is making the setup as interesting as the payoff, but once it gets moving, it really gets moving. Gotta love a film this willing to destroy as many cars as it did, and the chases aren't half bad either. read more
