mel gibson, the anti-semite, jew hating whack job sure does know how to pick good movies. at least he used to. what women want is a fine example of that. also staring helen hunt, in her 'prime', this movie is a solid and strong example of the 'chick flick' that will appeal to every gender. it's funny, it's romantic, it's enjoyable, it's smart, it's very well done. i really do enjoy this film and even though gibson is a jew hating sociopath he sure did give a winning performance here. if you can get past his public/private persona then there is plenty to like here with this wonderful example... read more

it is a solid rom-com that is charming enough to work with all audiences. it is an all around crowd pleaser that is filled with jokes that would never be allowed today, but were perfectly fine in 2000. i just have one major issue with the film. the opening explains that he is a chauvinistic pig who doesn't understand women because he was raised by his vegas showgirl mom. this should result in the exact opposite of the man he is. the sons of single moms tend to be very protective of their mothers and he would likely despise the way his mother was objectified by men and wouldn't objectify read more
