huuuge props to netflix for having the balls to announce and release this on the same day. that is probably my favorite thing to come out of the whole situation surrounding this movie. i hope more studios, or at least netflix, try this short announce-to-release thing. now, on to the movie. it was kind of bad. i certainly don't regret watching it, but it oozes missed potential. the first half of this movie is actually pretty solid. it's a fun, bizarre, cheesy sci-fi romp with a rag-tag group of scientists facing dimensional oddities that come with an experiment gone wrong. it doesnt make any... read more

a talented cast all tries to do there best, but this is an absolute mess. it doesn't make any sense and is really confusing and convoluted. it feels like prometheus, event horizon, and the core all smushed together into an amorphous blob of exposition heavy dialogue. thank goodness for chris o'dowd's inability to ever not be funny, because that was the only saving grace of this movie. the stupid cloverfield tie in was absolutely terrible and didn't mesh with the rest of the film at all. it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out they wrote all of the stuff on earth 6 months after shooting read more

this is a very strange movie. it has imaginative ideas with bland characters. fantastic production design with horrible story. great directing of a bad script. i sat down, watched it, and thought, "okay. that sure was a film." it definitely had the feeling of a cloverfield film set in space. the way they explored the film universe (or universes) was very interesting, and i liked the tie-in to the first film. but the bland writing and forgettable story make this film unpalatable to some fans. definitely watch it if you're in the mood for a pretty cool, if not quite a bit bland, sci-fi film.... read more

okay so, this movie is good. yeah? i mean, i really enjoyed it. it's definitely not perfect, but it does a number of things right, which just about outnumber the things it does wrong. firstly, i loved not knowing what it was about, or how it tied into the other two cloverfield movies- or even if it would. having said that, there's this scene not even ten minutes into the movie that drops some extremely telling foreshadowing on the viewer like a sack of bricks. the movie spoils itself before it has a chance to engage you in the mystery. imagine if in the sixth sense, bruce willis was like "oh... read more

quick bit of context first: i loved cloverfield and found 10 cloverfield lane to be a rather enjoyable film. unfortunately this film broke that little streak with a pretty massive disappointment. the film has some interesting (if cliché) ideas involving parrallel universes. it also has some "interesting" ideas about what makes a film part of an existing franchise, but that's something that doesn't bother me nearly as much as it does others, judging by some of the other reviews on here. there are some pretty solid performances by some pretty talented actors in this film. the script allows read more

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I would say that it kind of doesn't make sense in the universe of the story, like they pulled it out of their ass. But I liked it regardless. It's fall back is really just that it didn't feel like the same universe we got in the original. If you can look past that it wasn't a bad film. Then again, I really like space movies. read more

My quick rating - 5;7/10. Really not bad although I am sure there is plenty to dissect as far as continuity goes. But I don't mind; for the movie itself it was pretty entertaining. The special effects are done well and even though some points seemed fluff; it was still visually enticing. How they attempted to work this into the mythos of the first Cloverfield is the strange part. I really am on the fence of if this is a designed thing; or a comlpetely different movie they just slapped the Cloverfield thing into for the name.
