"it's his return to alien," they said. "it's more of a proper alien movie than prometheus 2." oh, were it so... it is so bad. so. bad. as bad as prometheus? well... at its worst, yes. i disengaged as soon as the female lead was saddled with that cheap, ugly-crying dead husband drama, which was about the time we learned her name. my expectations plummeted and never rose again. by the time the movie got to such lows as fassbender inexplicably kissing himself (i first wrote "killing himself", a freudian slip of typos) and the absolutely dreadful college student exchanges about sources of quotes... read

6.5/10 better then prometheus but still not even in the same league of alien or aliens. the thing is that going forward these are not really alien movies rather prometheus franchise. read

there's issues but i don't think it's terrible. i think ridley should step away from the franchise. much as i love alien, i just don't need these prequels really. read

alien: covenant is a fun and solid entry into the alien series. is it as good as prometheus or better or worse? i'm not sure, i need another viewing but i will say this. i did enjoy. it starts out like a very original alien sequel/prequel in so much as an 6th movie in a franchise could be original. just like alien it takes its time to introduce new characters, new ships, new locations and a new story. it's interesting, its fun, its a little eerie. then, about 45 minutes in it becomes a sequel to prometheus and wraps up many of those loose ends. then it becomes a generic slaughterhouse, alien... read

alien: covenant pulled off something miraculous. it made prometheus better in comparison. alien: covenant tries to be thought provoking sci-fi akin to the flawed prometheus while trying to be a basic alien slasher flick. it ultimately fails to do both. first off, the characters in this film were pretty forgettable and pointless with the surprise exception of danny mcbride. katherine waterston who plays the ripley rip-off never stands apart and the rest of the crew should have been eaten by the aliens willingly for all the good they are. the dumbest character award though goes to billy crudup... read

the franchise challenge - alien covenant: this was good. it had some pretty cool moments. i really liked when the crew came down to the planet and all the craziness that follows with the creatures. the first few deaths were graphic and exciting. all the david stuff that followed wasnt great tho. however the ending with him was good. waterston tried to channel her inner weaver/ripley. it worked at times. im assuming now that david has a ship full of people to experiment with he goes on to create our xenomorphs (or has already)? shame we wont get to see that - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ read

first time watching since the theater and i still enjoyed it. i walked out of the movie pretty satisfied and i was able to overlook a lot of the faults. this time those inconsistencies were a little bit harder to ignore. its still a vast improvement over prometheus. but while i still enjoy this movie, the conveniently stupid decisions the characters make are more blatant this time around. not every movie needs to change your life and not every installment needs to be the best of a series. this movie is underrated but its also not the latest and greatest. read

i enjoy this movie, but it also frustrates me. in prometheus we finally get some answers regarding the origin of the alien species and it was plausible. however, covenant interrupts that plausability by giving credit to david. prometheus ends by giving us a creature that is a giant 'face-hugger' which impregnantes the engineer and gives birth to a more xenomorph alien. it was easy to see how further evolution could lead to the alien we seen in the original series. in covenant, we see a continuation of this - impregnation (though not done by a 'face hugger') followed by the birth of a read

sure, all the elements are technically still there and everything looks sort of right, but at this point its like ridley scott propping his birthday party up with the remains of jerry goldsmith, dan obannon, and h.r. giger, singing “happy birthday to me.” full review on: https://www.back-row.com/home/2017/6/14/carlos-corner-sequels-dont-suck read

if alien was a perfect movie, as i've suggested- time and time again, alien: covenant is the antithesis of that movie. it is muddled, un-scary, and insulting to anyone who cared about the lore. alien was perfect because of it's perfect mystery. the xenomorph was a terrifying onscreen presence because we knew so little about it. the imagery of the derelict spacecraft on lv-426 is striking, like a science fiction painting that we'll never have context to. why did it crash? how long has it been there? where did the aliens come from? these questions aren't ones you're supposed to answer. they're... read

film 83 of obligatory october of horror ii jumpscare counter: 0. there were a handful of moments that were kind of like jumpscares during the third quarter of the film but none of them actually scared me so i'm not counting them. when keeping it colonialism goes wrong. i mean, it was fine. i have no major criticisms. but if you asked me to praise alien covenant, i'd struggle to come up with anything i really genuinely liked. maybe the visuals but those are still just riffing on giger's designs which are now over 40 years old. maybe the acting from fassbender, i guess. it's absolutely okay and... read

I do like this more than Prometheus but it does have really bad cliches and really does ruin the Xenomorph mythology a lot. Michael Fassbender does an excellent job and so does Danny McBride for not being an asshole in a lot of his films but I think this was and is a step in the wrong direction for the franchise. read

Both a sequel to the underrated (if flawed) "Prometheus" and a prequel to the original "Alien", "Covenant" puts more effort in steering the franchise back towards the gory horror of its earliest progenitor than in developing characters that are anything more than alien fodder, awkwardly stitching the pseudo-philosophical element of the previous film onto yet another story of a space crew being wiped off by the now overly familiar, Giger-inspired, carnivorous monsters. Still visually intriguing but, as far as suspense goes, it's light years behind a competently made imitation such as " read

I get what Scott was trying to accomplish in this movie, but so much of the movie is just boring uninteresting scenarios we've seen in sci-fi horror movies over the years.
I'm all for David's god complex and having a hand in the Xenomorph evolution. That's one of the only new interesting bits going on here, I felt with Prometheus too, all the parts I thought were interesting needed way more time for proper world building and fleshing things out.
It's seriously takes half the movie to start getting anywhere, and I would be fine with that if the characters and situations were interesting, but... read

I really liked Prometheus, in spite of the fact that it was like 60-70% "mumbo jumbo" or maybe even because it was. Alien: Covenant boosts those numbers up to a solid 95% and I am all for it. It struggles for cohesion, it's both very prequel-y and very sequel-y, but it's also full of some interesting ideas and stunning imagery, plus it ramps up the Xenomorph bloodlust and Fassbender returns and sort of becomes the soul of the entire movie (or the exact opposite, as the case may be). read
