Oh, boy. What a train wreck of a film. This is easily, with Thor: Love and Thunder, one of the worst Marvel Cinematic Universe movies ever. I hate the way it uses each and every one of it's central characters (yes, even Kang, I'll get into that later). First let's start off with what easily killed the film and potentially Avengers 5 and 6. If Kang the Conqueror truly will be the main villain of this entire saga, he shouldn't be squashed by people like M.O.D.O.K. and Wasp, of which the latter was sidelined and had all of 10 lines throughout the movie. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is directed by Peyton Reed and the movie is a very disappointing start to Phase 5. Before the release of this film, I was somewhat excited for a large-scale Ant-Man movie that will have an impact on the MCU as a whole. The trailers proved this to me, it finally looked like Marvel was going to convince everyone they are still successful after the disappointment that was Phase 4. Perhaps it's because my expectations were so low due to the reviews which greeted this movie upon release, the luke-warm reception from those I know who had seen it before me, or simply the fact that I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the first two Ant Man movies, but I went into this third movie in the franchise thinking that I was probably wasting my time... only to be surprised at how much I enjoyed most of it. My quick rating - 6;4/10. This one gets some 4K treatment from me. And it definitely deserved it since the effects in this are so colorful at times and very vivid. The CGI artists deserve all kinds of respect here. But there is a lot more to a flick than just the eye candy and that is where I am hit and miss wit this one. I don't know what to say. I enjoyed Scott being a dad and watching Jonathan Majors as Kang was definitely a joy but the movie was quite predictable with some weak acting. I was quite excited for this but forgot what the quality of the MCU has become; quantity... It also suffered from the forced humour as the other films. The visuals were great... if the effects were good. The CGI was horrendous and made the film look really cheap. This is a multi-billion dollar company and they can't make the green screen look good? Kang fell completely flat. Aside from Loki, his character has had no true development or connection with the audience. Felt like a mid 2000s straight to DVD movie. usually i can acknowledge having a fun time coming out of a marvel movie or enjoying the speculation with the series, but this is actually the least ive felt coming out of one of these. i just dont feel anything. the humor doesnt land, its ugly as fuck, i didnt feel invested in any of the characters, and its hard to even care about this movie on an individual level knowing its just set-up for future stuff. i just dont care. at least ive gotten into actually reading the comics now read more
