A show about three bears living in a human world, what more could you want?

Reviewing every CN shows that I've watched: We Bare bears.

This my first time writing a full length review in this site so I apologize if it seemed messy. I'm only covering the main show so I won't review the movie or the pilot. Also, English is not my first language.

Back in 2016, I used to watch this show and I loved everything about it. From the characters, voice acting & the music. It also impacted my love for slice of life cartoons! Looking at it now, it's good but definitely not one of my favourites as it used to be. So what's it about? 

Story: 6/10

The story is quite simple. The story follows the main characters, three bear brothers: Grizzly, Panda & Ice Bear and their awkward attempts at integrating with the human world in San Francisco & encountering new friends/people in their daily lives & going through adventures. While it might not be exciting since most episodes were mostly fun, whimsical simple slice of life story, there are some episodes that were overarching that might make you feel emotional. I see this been compared to Shirokuma Cafe (Polar bear Cafe in English) for having similar slice of life story, anthropomorphic animals that were in the human world & a main character that's a bear. I won't say much since I haven't seen much of it so I won't comment on that. (though, i like how wbb is referencing the anime from the episode: "Coffee Cave", it's really neat of them to actually do that!).

As much as I like this show for been a relaxing slice of life show. there's some flaws with the series such as not finishing Icy nights. The way that they left the story unfinished bothers me to this day. Like, I wanna know more about Yuri & his daughter, Yana & a backstory for these two. They could've finished it before the show's over but oh well. A story that will never remain finished.  

Another problem I got with this show is season 4. I didn't like how there's so many baby bears episodes. Now don't get me wrong, I actually don't mind these episodes as I like some of them but it's just, way too much. Some of them were even pointless & adds nothing to the story. Nom Nom & Lucy were recurring characters yet they never get much spotlight episodes like the others did. Yes, I know Nom Nom got the most focus in season 3 but they could've gave him at least more episodes, you know.

Visual: 7/10

The art is nothing too spectacular since they use calart for the main characters (which I personally not a fan of) but I have to admit that some of the visuals were absolutely amazing. From the watercoloured sceneries & lineart with cozy, fresh colors which fits the show's main theme perfectly. I also have to say that some of the designs for the background characters were really neat, I like how they're trying to be diverse. The main characters design's fits their personalities accurately.

Sound: 8/10

The soundtracks for this show were actually pretty good, though it wasn't as good or interesting as the other cartoon soundtracks that I've listened. Most of the tracks were calming, cozy, badass, eerie & emotional. I like how some of these fits the scenes from each episodes of the series. The songs in this show were pretty neat from energetic & poppy to calming & relaxing. It's also interesting to note that not only the songs were in English but there's also songs that were Korean & Japanese! I'm also surprised that they brought Estelle (Garnet from SU VA) & The K-pop group (Monsta X) in the series.

Besides, the soundtrack I'd like to include the voice actors. They did an AMAZING job at voicing the characters. It fits them so well and they're the ones that brought the characters back to life with their outstanding acting. In some scenes, I especially love how some of them were voiced during dramatic climax. They're pretty much talented.

Characters: 7/10

And here's the best part of the series. The characters. The bears might be archetypes at first but they're more than that! unlike other slice of life cartoons that I've watched, this show actually cared to develop not only the main trio but also the side characters & their relationships with the bears (Grizz/Nom Nom, Grizz/Tabes, Panda/Charlie & my favourite Ice Bear/Chloe). They did a good job writing them. Even though, I wish they use Lucy more. She's the only one that I didn't care much.

Enjoyment: 6/10

Overall I enjoyed it, the episodes could've been a bit better but this show was saved for having pretty likable characters & season 3, one of the best seasons from We bare Bears.

In conclusion/Final thoughts:

We bare bears might not be one of my favourite cartoon network or overall series ever because it has flaws but it's still enjoyable. If you're looking for a series that's slice of life with great characters & story or you just want to relax, then this show is for you.
