I'm surprised that there is a second season for this series because the first season doesn't have much more things to tell and is losing direction towards the end. It started pretty well for the first few episodes, but halfway through, I felt it was boring and repetitive. Initially, the story focuses on Julia Child and how she strives to get her own cooking show. It also successfully highlighted the dominance of men and how they belittled women's capabilities at that time.
However, once Julia got her own cooking show, the story seems losing its direction and became more focused on women's struggle between conservatism and the modernisation world. Then, Julia becomes more manipulative, doing whatever she wants, and everyone has to accommodate her demands. When she feels upset, everyone goes to her to console her, telling her how good she is. The husband seems to be forced to be supportive, trying his best to be useful and not losing his manliness in every episode. And they become a troublesome couple that manipulates the people around them to do what they ask.
I felt the side characters such as Alice, Judith and Avis are more meaningful and easier to be accepted in the series. I wanted to like this series until the end, but I couldn't. I don't think I can continue to watch the second season because even eight episodes are too many. Maybe three to five episodes are already more than enough to summarise the entire story.
