This movie picks up on the beach where The Bourne Identity (BI) finished. Usually sequels do not live up to the original, this though delivers! All of the guile, action and mystery of the first keeping the viewer in suspense at every turn.
Two complaints: 1) Marie’s early demise - her death allows Bourne to be unencumbered and motivated. Franka Portente was an asset in BI and her ‘sounding board’ character shouldered large parts of the narrative development. A ‘Watson’ is no longer required. 2) The camera was bouncing all over the place. This is a pretentious stylistic choice made by many movies at this time. It is annoying and makes the movie more difficult to watch. Thankfully this practice has generally been stopped.
