To understand the difference between the original and the sequel, one needs only to listen to the soundtrack. The original had John Carpenter-esque synth tracks, that whilst low fidelity and low budget, gave the film a grungy B-Movie feel that kept the film tight, small and tense as hell.
The T2 soundtrack is your standard late 80s-early 90s blockbuster soundtrack, lots of big drums, string settings and generally very little personality.
