The vampire Alucard, his master Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing and his newly sired ward Sera Victoria, try to protect England from a war - crazed SS - Major who seeks to start an eternal war with his vampire army.
Animation: 9
Amazing
Compared to the original, the artwork is a lot more fluid and detailed (plus the effects are amazing in look and have a lot more artistic flare to them). The quick movements and sharp flare of the work really pieces the artwork together.
Sound: 7
Jazzy
Similar to the original anime, the OST was really jazzy and creative. I also liked the background soundtracks that seemed to have a fitting energy to the anime and adds to the action and feeling of the show. I also liked how the music was intense enough to also add a layer of engagement to the anime without it being super obvious.
Character: 8
Stylish
The art style was sharp and shiny yet remained dark as expected. The designs of the anime were an improvement to the anime and added more to the characters to portray their personalities, abilities and species more compared to the original. A prime example of this is how Alucard's look felt more vampiric yet also more demonic and aggressive yet still remained subtle and sophisticated in moments where he took on a more standard form. Seras was also a good look with how she seemed to grow more into her design and the changes we saw happening with her throughout the show being reflected visually. I also like how they kept the original looks for many of the characters staying true to its predecessor and finding ways to update them!
Enjoyment: 8
Engaging
It still follows a very singular plot to its 2001 predecessor although this detail is made slightly more prominent in Ultimate than it was mentioned in the hellsing version. With this updated version, the art style looks amazing and intense and the backstories to characters are elaborated on deeply to make for a meaningful experience with lasting impressions and insights into who they are and what it is that makes them tick. I feel that with this version, although still fast paced and with fewer episodes, it allows for a direct plot and more action and gore to be featured (I'd say more so prominent with the horror / gore factor than the first). If you're looking for a stronger plot that stays true to the original and still hosts the horror factor it's notorious for, this would suit you better, but I would still watch the original as well just for some introduction and seeing how much it had changed (ultimate is said to follow more accurately to the manga). A great watch for horror / action.
[Hellsing: The Dawn] ~~ Rating: 8 stars
Synopsis:During the height of World War II, Nazi Germany seeks to strengthen their soldiers with technology crafted under the influence of vampiric biology. Out of fear of his technology turning the tide of war in the Axis's favor, Sir Arthur Hellsing enlists his butler and soldier Walter C. Dornez and vampire Alucard to put a stop to the German plot, sending two men into a conflict that will scar them both forever.
Review: In this prequel to Hellsing Ultimate, Hellsing agents Alucard and young Walter, the resourceful Hellsing family butler, are sent to nazi - occupied Europe in 1944 to stop the Nazis' attempt to create a vampire army. It only features 3 episodes (all in sub), but I think it does well for giving some minor insight in the events in Ultimate (although this is hinted at / fairly easily explained in the anime ultimate regardless). I do think that it is a good watch, and it features the same style as Ultimate as well.
